Fake News – the new nemesis
Fake News – the new nemesis
Wars are no more fought on borders alone. Today the bigger war is of narratives. With a person’s personality being dominated by D (Digital Footprints) in ABCD of Personality, the social media and the digital world rule a person’s thoughts and a country’s collective consciousness.
Fake news has become the next most profitable business after terrorism and narcotics in the recent times. It has become such a huge part of everybody’s lives that we have learnt to live with it, it is perfectly normalized. Sometimes, we don’t even get to realize that we are dealing with such a thing.
Normal Stimulus of Fake news which most of us notice :
□Tweets and Social media posts appear with fake information, reach a lot of people and then are silently deleted.
□A group of people do tweets / social media posts for a similar agenda on a stipulated date / time. This increases the volume of traffic of the narrative and visibility of the false news becomes very high at a given period of time.
□Memes / Info graphics are created with false news and then circulated in large numbers. The common man believes anything in black and white is true and falls for this.
□Newspaper print non-validated, speculative articles like the recent one in an international newspaper saying that the number of covid deaths in India could be higher without any kind of evidence. Also death of a ex Loksabha speaker was published by so many newspapers without any validation.
□Videos are created and circulated in WA forwards are totally based on an agenda and have nothing to do with reality. They target the population which is not into reading and solely relies on Audio visual for information. Anti polio drop video was a very successful one in this section.
□ News Channels suddenly collectively start displaying a certain topic of news to maximum coverage at a stipulated time. This impacts the country’s collective response to a certain event.
□ Old photos / News are shared in recent times to malign images and push an agenda.
□ Big Tech and their micro blogging platforms/ Social Media have the become the unsaid members of every country’s parliament as rightly said by the French Premiere. Big games are internationally on in a country’s election. Embedded media is nothing new, it dates back to the gulf war, used by US initially and then by all and sundry. But the quantum of effect it can bring has grown to be a Goliath. Recent happenings at Red Fort, India and Capitol, US are striking examples to the power they hold now. They can topple governments, control the thought process. They are the new ‘Pyaj’ of 90s in India.
□Traffic on social media suddenly appears censored for a certain segment or the visibility goes down. Algorithms of Social Media have become the new guns to fire. Bots are deployed to achieve this.
□Trolls or human bots are employed to hold narratives / agendas across social media platforms. They work on a daily basis, get paid handsomely.
□Foreign newspapers / academician play opposition politics in a country on behest of the country’s opposition.
□Manipulated world rankings are created to bring down a country’s government’s image. It is known to all who will it benefit.
Some subtle stimulus which we barely notice :
□ A news link pops up on your phone lock screen and urges you to read more. Think about it, your phone lock screen is controlled by the UI of your phone OS and who controls it.
□ Browser notification keep popping up on your phone. Who controls your phone browser, which browser are you using?
□ On your social media wall/TL, promoted news / posts keep appearing which are agenda driven and paid. Who pays for them, what is the intent?
□ A newspaper prints a false article. That article reaches a huge number of people. Than a small corrigendum is printed a couple of days later, which is read by few people so that actual article remains to be the real news in the people’s mind.
□ A newspaper prints an article with a completely misleading headline and but correct content. Its taps on the common human mentality wherein the readers don’t have the patience to read the whole article. So the readers carry the image of the headline as the truth.
□ Articles are written with half truths in such a way that they can’t be said to be false. It is a play of words. Half truths are more dangerous than fake news
□ Movies / telly shows which impacts the masses and classes alike, work on a given agenda until it is normalized in the minds of the people. Think back 10 years, was nudity and booze a common thing then? This is not by chance.
□ Books are written, plays are performed on a given narrative for years until it becomes the truth in a common man’s mind.
□ School books / syllabus of colleges is planned over years to suit a narrative. The history in the minds of people is controlled. Remember our children will know tomorrow only what they are learning today, what we know will be gone with us.
What is the source?
Most of these phenomenon would lead into a country’s opposition IT cells, International Intelligence agency’s war rooms, organizations destabilizing world peace like Soros, international well-knit ecosystem for different mafia and what not. Every minute, there is a big deliberation going on and they intend to make you a part of their plan, you like it or not.
With such a ploy at work and such a volatile state, an informed citizen is a country’s asset. Be one! Don’t get used!
